Dalai Lama is a smart man!

I saw this quote on facebook and I really think it hits the nail on the head!

"Man sacrifices his health in order to make money.
Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health.
And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, and then dies having never really lived.” - Dalai Lama

I see this countless times in my practice.  People are so busy trying to get ahead that they put their health on the back burner.  Then they get a little older and their body doesn't keep up, they gain weight, end up on blood pressure pills, get diabetes, then spend a ton of money (or health care resources) on fighting their way back, or just fighting to not get worse!  Many times we've seen young vibrant people die of totally preventable circumstances and it's just so sad!  If only they realized earlier!

I did live like that myself for years!  Being insane busy in my job, surviving on coffee and bagels, muffins, cookies, then pig out on crap when I do have time to sit down for a meal.  Spending my time off in front of a TV, the weight creeping up.  Thankfully I realized at a young enough age that I was headed down a dangerous path!

The second part of the quote is close to my heart.

My Dad was a hard worker, and while he did enjoy life, it was stollen from him at a young age and he never got to enjoy the retirement he was working for.  I don't want that for myself or my kids so we do try to live life to the fullest and enjoy what time we do have together, because it could so quickly be taken away from us.  While we prepare for the future, we need to enjoy the present at the same time!

We really need to learn to take care of ourselves, NOW.  Later might be too late!  Get healthy, get off meds, enjoy the life you have!

It's my little big girls 4th birthday tomorrow!

Tonight we made cupcakes, so we would have time to make pancakes in the morning, then go for pizza for lunch, then to the movies in the afternoon.  At least she can have a cupcake on her birthday!  I used a cake mix, because I had one in the cupboard.  Omitted the oil but still put 3 eggs in.  I could have omitted the eggs, but Lara likes to crack eggs :D

I got the cupcakes in the oven and realized I didn't have icing sugar!  So, no icing!  What else is a mom to do, but remember a pinterest post about using marshmallows!   You simply put a marshmallow on each cupcake for the last 5 minutes of baking, they melt, voila!  Marshmallow "icing"!

It was actually really yummy!  The marshmallow toasted on top and was nice and gooey!  I think it would be better with a flavoured cake mix instead of just a plain white cake, but it was still tasty!
Pretty low points too!  The cupcakes, with eggs are 3 points a piece, or 2 for 5 points.  If I omitted the eggs they would be 2 points a piece!  The marshmallows are only a point, so really not bad for a cupcake!  I had two, and a couple of extra marshmallows for good measure!
